Guide to the Character/Roleplay Factions of Megatokyo: the Clans.

by Iain Caduceus

Setting: Megatokyo: the Clans

Factions are presented in rough order of appearance.

Note: Character Factions listed here are only those that have had a major role in MT:tC so far. For a list of all factions, please check out Psieye's Guide to the Character Factions.

Pre Fanboy War Factions (i.e. organizations in the comic)

Sega: One of the four main game corperations, Sega also has their hands in many other pieces of the world's pie. Sega brand weapons, black ops teams, and other forms of evil are the examples that have been seen. Sega was the faction responsible for the first Church of Miho Incident, which occured when Dom kidnapped Kimiko, and a band of fanboys battled their way across the war shattered city of Megatokyo to rescue her and defeat him. Dom, being a Main Character, is the most powerful member of Sega, but the organization is formidable as a whole. However, it has not had a major influence upon the city since Dom's defeat and banishment to Strange Candy during the CoM Incident.

Sony: The second of the four main game companies, Sony is the creator of the Ping and Echo EDS units, including the original, Main Character level Ping prototype unit. In addition, Sony created Yukiko, a powerful combat oriented android, and the wife of the current Right Hand of Miho, BGMaster. The two most notable agents of Sony are Ed, a Main Character and Dom's rival and best friend, and _Quinn, though neither has been active since A Normal Day in Megatokyo. Also notable is one of their Echo units, who is very well developed.

Microsoft: The third and most 3v1l of the main game companies, Microsoft is a threat to the peace and security of Megatokyo. Their Virtual Reality Megatokyo caused significant trouble for the factions, and allowed them to capture at least one (faulty) copy of the Chruch of Miho's Necrowombicon. Their clone of the reality bending super-villain Wolfdead was a significant threat that was only barely stopped. More recently, they let loose an avatar of the dark god Bhall into the streets of Megatokyo. Currently still causing problems, though they've received significant loses at the hands of the Character factions.

Nintendo: The fourth of the main game companies has had little to do with faction politics in the city. They have several agents, but said agents tend to do what they want.

Megatokyo Cataclysm Division: The MTCD is led by the Main Character Inspector Masamichi Sonoda, in a de facto manner. The MTCD takes care of the scheduling and control of disasters in the city, making things run in an organized manner. The character factions all possess a wide variety of permits issued from the MTCD, as many of their activities (which tend to lead to destruction) would be illegal otherwise. A significant power in the city.

Conscience Enforcement Agency: Little is known about the CEA; what is known is surreal, even by Megatokyo standards. The members of the CEA are very small winged people, who appear to work as exterior consciences for people who don't have their own. There is also apparently an opposing organization, which is both better equipped and better funded, which dispatches bat winged agents to work as anti-consciences, usually for the same people. The name of this organization is unknown (though it is rumored they were bought by Sony, recently). The most well known members of the CEA are the Main Characters Special Agent Seraphim and Temporary Special Agent Boo. Other notable agents include the CEA trained assassin (why the CEA has assassins, I have no clue) Crafts, and the former Microsoft Brain-washee Aki. The most notable member of the opposing agency is Asmodeus.

Character Factions (fans of a single character)

The Church of Miho: The current ruling faction of Megatokyo, the Church of Miho is undisputedly the most powerful of the factions. The dark magics they receive from their Queen, Miho Tohya, and the Necrowombicon provide them with very significant strength, as does their economic, political, and straight military influence. The Church was, until recently, led by Aleksandr Kavinsky, code name Nightwalker. Since his defection to and return from (both for unknown reasons) the Yuki Liberation Front, the Church is again led by the overwhelmingly powerful BGMaster, who can bend and twist reality at whim, and Nightwalker's influence has become decidedly more limited. Also of note is the Council, a group of powerful but shadowy Mihoists who take care of the day to day administration of the Church. Other notable members of the Church of Miho include Manta_X, Doji Hoturi, the Miho cosplayer Tohya, Shadowdancer Duskstar, the tea loving bartender Hanatoko, and the Church's Webmistress, Integral. Two notes of interest about the Church are their recent military build up, and their Ravenous Ambulatory Vassals of Evil Re-incarnate, or R.A.V.E.R.s, the zombies of especially stupid forum trolls. They are deadly and nearly indestructible.

The Yuki Liberation Front: The initiators of the first Fanboy War, the Yuki Liberation front is a small, but dangerous group of fanatics. This being said, the YLF actively uses its Stargate technology to comb the galaxy for young women in dire circumstances, whom they refer to as “Sad Girls in Snow.” The YLF uses its considerable resources to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide education and vocational training for these women. They also sponsor a large resettlement program for those who wish it, helping many of them to resettle in Megatokyo and other locations. Of course, due to their fanaticism, their other primary goal is to get all other fanboys (indeed, all of mankind) to believe in the glory of their Angel, Yuki Sonoda.

The YFL makes its home on the planet Na Pali, and are allied with the Skaarj and Necris races of that planet, two races of powerful and dangerous warriors. Their leader, Draegos, is an incredible fanatic, powerful, inflammatory, and dangerous, though he is prone to comic stupidity and pies. At any point, he is usually on the hit lists of dozens, if not hundreds, of fanboys whose idols he has derided. Other notable members of the YFL are Bob, an especially large Skaarj with a fondness for cute things, and Captain Arram Salmalin. The Yuki Liberation Front is in an informal alliance with the theoretically neutral United Fangirls of Largo-sama, due to the relationship between Draegos and the UFL's Head Nurse, Meagan.

The Kimiko Army/Kimiko Fanboy Horde: The Kimiko Army was the third main participant in the Fanboy War, along with the Church and the YLF. Their founder was DietWaterCzar, who was, to put it bluntly, a complete and utter psychotic. The KA inflamed the war, and caused a lot of trouble. After the wars Derian Hatcheter, a former subordinate to DWC, took over, and the KA went underground. They are still an influential and powerful faction, and have participated in nearly every significant event in Megatokyo's violent history. Generally, though, they just run the Kimiko Arcade and hang out. The Kimiko Fanboy Horde is a looser affiliation of fanboys, not all of them necessarily official members of the KA. They are led by Snow, who simply summons them whenever they are needed. They also have a large intelligence network. Other notable members of the KA are McFinnigan and Wolven. Notable members of the KFH include Ph00tbag and H3llbl4d3 Vortigen.

The United Fangirls of Largo-sama: Ironically, the UFL is a neutral faction that runs a hospital. They are lead by Head Nurse Meagen, and are otherwise composed of a large number of Rei clones for nurses. The UFL Hospital is a necessary, even vital, part of Megatokyo, as most ordinary hospitals won't treat fanboys, for obvious reasons; they'd kill each other and destroy the hospital. The Rei clones and cute fangirls who run the UFL are able to effectively prevent this with their Concentrated Piro Art Essence and their general cuteness. Meagen is currently involved in a relationship with the head of the YLF, and thus the two factions work closely together. Other notable members of the UFL are Nurse Tohru, Doctor Lightsider, Doctor Will Trent, and the various Rei clones who have developed individual personalities.

The Piroists: There is no actual faction of Piroists; they tend to be loners and individualists. For simplicity, worshipers of both the Main Character Piro and the goddess Pirogoeth are being grouped under the term Piroists. Piroists have had important parts in every major event from the Fanboy War to the events of the Normal Day. All known Piroists possess magical powers of various sorts. Notable Piroists include the WizardofKitty, Kamida Mahou, and the Pirogoeth worshipping werewolf Tanetris.

The Order of the Rent-a-zilla: Maniacs. Pure and simple. ORAZ grew out of the Canadian Global Conquest Initiative, and revel in destruction and mayhem. Their idol is a monster, their Snack Bar is a joke, and their food is a menace. ORAZ has been instrumental in defeating the menace of Microsoft several times, but they have caused as many problems for Megatokyo as they have solved, with their dangerous mutating food and their propensity for destruction. The leader of ORAZ is Asimov. Other notable members of ORAZ include the high tech former mercenary Snow, the dreadnought LordVetinari, the shapeshifter Durden, and the half vampire Darktan.

Erika Multinational: Erika Multinational is a more recent faction, and unlike the others, was actually founded by a Main Character, Erika Hayasaka. The Lady Hayasaka founded Erika Multinational after witnessing the Fanboy War and the first Church of Miho Incident, which caused her to realize that fanboys would never stop fighting, so someone may as well benefit from that fact. Erika Multinational is a powerful, for-profit (lots of profit) corporation. They have many business interests all over the world, but primarily make weapons with which to supply the other factions. Erika Multinational's power is found primarily on their vast monetary resources (and the political influence that accompanies it), and their advanced Magi-technology. Though EM is a for-profit agency, both the company and Erika herself make remarkable contributions to charity and invest heavily in the well being of the city of Megatokyo; the infrastructure of Megatokyo was constructed almost entirely through the combined efforts of EM and the CoM. The leader and CEO of Erika Multinational is Erika herself. The Executive Vice President is Izuko, who is also the leader of Erika's Errant Knights, EM's military division. Other notable members of EM include their Spokesrodent, the Ancestral Hamster, his assistant, Mariko Fujiwara, and the Head of Weapon's Research and Development, the technomancer Iain Caduceus.
